Sashiko - Visible mending Workshop 

Repairing instead of throwing away

(with optional follow-up) new!!

Sashiko is a traditional Japanese technique for repairing and decorating textiles.

Using a simple running stitch, we hand-sew patterns that give fabric a new value, personal expression, and second life - no prior experience required. Through the workshop, you will learn about the history, principles, and patterns of this centuries-old craft, and how to apply them to your own pieces. It is also a deeply calming and joyful activity to share with others.

The workshop will be led by Madeleine, a handcraft teacher who studied Sashiko under a Japanese textile artist and regularly teaches in France and Switzerland.

Date: Thu. 27 November 2025

Time: 18:00 – 21:00

Price: CHF 160 per person (3 hours of practice, including a tea break with Japanese treats)

Location: Haraiso, Zentralstrasse 24, 8003 Zürich

Capacity: 5 participants (min. 3 Participants)

What to bring:
Please bring a piece of clothing or textile item you would like to repair or decorate (e.g., a bag, jacket, cushion cover, or similar).
Needles, thread, and fabric patches will be provided, and additional materials can also be purchased at Haraiso.

Languages: German, English, French

As each participant works on their own item with individual guidance, the number of participants is limited to 5.

🧵 Follow-up Session - new!!

For those who wish to continue their practice, we offer a follow-up session one week later.

Thursday, 4 December 2025, from 17:00 to 19:00 at Haraiso.

This is a great opportunity to deepen your Sashiko skills, ask questions, and receive further guidance in a relaxed atmosphere.

Price: CHF 80 per person (2 hours)

You can register for both sessions together below, or sign up for the follow-up separately here once your workshop participation is confirmed.

Also open to past participants:
The follow-up session is open not only to this workshop’s attendees but also to past participants of Haraiso’s Sashiko workshops.

If you’ve joined us before and would like guided practice, you’re warmly welcome to join this session.

Workshop Cancellation: As we begin preparations well in advance, please review the following cancellation policy carefully.

• Up to 7 days before (by 20 November 2025): Full refund
• 6 to 3 days before (21–24 November 2025): 50% refund or rescheduling (if possible)
• 2 days before or on the day (25–27 November 2025): No refund
